Magnetic crossover in the one-dimensional Hubbard model in the presence of a magnetic field
The ground-state (GS) properties of the one-dimensional (1D) Hubbard model at half-filling are examined in the presence of a magnetic field using the generalized mean-field (GMF) approach, which includes the spin-density and the electron–hole correlations on an equal footing. The GMF formalism provides insight into both the metal–insulator transition and the transition from itinerant to localiz...
متن کاملStructural order parameter and itinerant electron magnetism in Cd2Re2O7
We describe the low temperature behaviour of the magnetic susceptibility of Cd2Re2O7 in terms of a Landau theory of structural phase transitions. We calculate the zero temperature Pauli susceptibility using a tight-binding approach to reveal the mechanism of coupling between the structural order parameter and itinerant magnetism.

A central issue in material science is to obtain understanding of the electronic correlations that control complex materials. Such electronic correlations frequently arise due to the competition of localized and itinerant electronic degrees of freedom. While the respective limits of well-localized or entirely itinerant ground states are well-understood, the intermediate regime that controls the...
متن کاملA simple model for magnetism in itinerant electron systems
A new lattice model of interacting electrons is presented. It can be viewed as a classical Hubbard model in which the energy associated to electron itinerance is proportional to the total number of possible electron jumps. Symmetry properties of the Hubbard model are preserved. In the half-filled band with strong interaction the model becomes the Ising model. The main features of the magnetic b...
متن کاملDistinct itinerant spin-density waves and local-moment antiferromagnetism in an intermetallic ErPd2Si2 single crystal
Identifying the nature of magnetism, itinerant or localized, remains a major challenge in condensed-matter science. Purely localized moments appear only in magnetic insulators, whereas itinerant moments more or less co-exist with localized moments in metallic compounds such as the doped-cuprate or the iron-based superconductors, hampering a thorough understanding of the role of magnetism in phe...
